History of World Environment Day
World Environment Day (WED) is another unique and special holiday because of its history and its many facets. This was formed on the first day of the first American conference focusing on humans and how they interact with the environment. However, it didn’t happen overnight. Sweden first proposed to hold such a conference in American way in 1968. And in 1969, the Americans agreed that after 3 years they would have a conference in Sweden focusing on environmental issues. Interestingly, the conference was chaired by Morris Strong, a Canadian ambassador, who works in the oil and mineral industry, who also had a soft spot for the environment.
Finally, it all came together in 1972, 4 years of preparation and $30,000,000 later.. World leaders from around the world sat together to discuss how they can raise awareness to protect our environment and then this WED was created. Then after 2 years, for the first time WED was celebrated with the slogan of “just one land”
Since then, WED has been fully embraced by people everywhere, so much that it’s slowly seeping into pop culture (and we love it! Celebrities around the world, in their own unique ways, encourage people to play their part and “save the world”.
Fan Favorites Leonardo DiCaprio and Merrell Streep are just some of the many who consistently talk about environmental awareness. So, it doesn’t matter if you’re a famous actor, an athlete or a student in college: gather your friends and spend a day out doing fun activities to preserve this beautiful planet. Believe us when we say, you’re going to have a blast and feel so much better afterwards.
Activities of the day
The most important issues we are facing in the world today are stability and protection of environment. World Environment Day encourages everyone from individuals to large corporations to be more aware of their impact on the environment. A theme is seen every year. The theme for 2020 was ‘diversity’ advocacy campaigns and the demand for change are greatly promoted, while educating others to adopt healthy actions and gap patterns that contribute to ecosystem degradation. Just the simple act of turning off unnecessary lights has a tremendous effect. Exhibitions and events take place in educational institutions, in which influential speakers participate.

How to end global environment day.
Pledge to recycle
This seems like a basic tip, but are you really taking every possible chance to recycle? Next time you’re thinking about throwing that piece of paper in the trash because the recycling bin isn’t accessible, think twice. Holding a plastic container and too lazy to see if it’s one of the biodegradable types? Open your smartphone and see this! Everyone is responsible for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Plant a tree
Trees absorb odor and polluted gases (nitrogen oxide, ammonia, sulfur dioxide, and ozone) and filter particles out of the air by getting stuck to their leaves and bark. Strategically placed around a single-family home, they can reduce air conditioning requirements by up to 50 percent in the summer. By reducing the need for energy to cool our homes, we reduce CO2 and other pollution emissions from power houses.
Voluntary
Anyone can volunteer, and volunteer services can make a difference throughout the community. Step out of your comfort zone by volunteering for the National Park Service, or stay local by volunteering at your farmers market. Whichever way you choose to participate, you’ll feel the positive effects of getting out of the house and caring for the planet.

Why World Environment Day is important. It connects us to the nature. Sometimes we forget how much natural systems support our own well-being. But we are part of nature, and we depend on it. So today is the perfect opportunity to get outside and enjoy your country’s national parks, and celebrate important relationships.
This creates awareness
More and more people are starting to realize that we need to sustainably manage our planet’s resources and ecosystem. However, this belief is far from universal. This is why World Environment Day is so important: it provides an opportunity to raise awareness and teach friends and family that the physical environment is fragile and inevitable. But before you start promoting environmental awareness in your community, make sure you’re fully aware of environmental matters yourself. There is always more to learn!
This encourages us to take action
The environment is rapidly becoming polluted with pollutants and toxins, and they have detrimental effects on our health. They can cause respiratory diseases and cancer. And that’s just for starters.
